Andrzej Wajda was born in Suwalki, Poland. His more than 50 features include A Generation (55), Kanal (57), Ashes and Diamonds (58), The Ashes (65), The Promised Land (75), and Katyn (07).His films Man of Iron (81), Korczak (90), and Walesa, Man of Hope (13) all screened at the acclaimed International Festivals.
A story of Władysław Strzemiński, an avangarde painter, who did not give in to socialist realism being ruthlessly enforced by Communist regime in the post-war Poland. The tragic consequences of a struggle for artistic freedom in the totalitarian system of power unfold at first slowly, but gradually lead a charismatic, defiant man into the abyss. Afterimage becomes a multilayered, intellectual battle on a role of art and freedom of expression. A film about an artist destroyed by the system and how dangerous it is to fuse political power with a will to shape people’s consciousness.
