The film festival is being organized by the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy for the Government of Karnataka.The 12th edition of BIFFES, the Bengaluru International Film Festival is scheduled to be held during February 26th – March 4th, 2020 in Bengaluru City, INDIA .
Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka State in India, is an important centre of International film culture in keeping with Karnataka’s glorious heritage and the State’s achievements in the fields of literature, fine arts, and cinema. The Kannada Film Industry has made significant contribution to the quality and range of cinematic expression and grown to produce over 200 films every year. Films from Karnataka have won national and international recognition and critical acclaim at various International Film Festivals, over the years.
We would like to recall here that our 11th edition held during February 21– 28, 2019 in Bengaluru, was a resounding success with screening of 220 films across 12 screens from more than 50 countries, and witnessed by more than 10000 delegates, who enjoyed and appreciated the quality of cinema presented.

Selection of films will be made by expert committees. BIFFes will select films for various sections other than the competition films through its Artistic Director, who in turn will take inputs from various sources across the world through Film Festival Programmers, Advisors, Film Critics, Selection Committees comprising of filmmakers, experts on cinema and eminent persons from other fields. The films made by filmmakers of repute, award-winning films in the major international film festivals are some of the other criteria for selection of films.
Competitive sections for the Asian, Indian and Kannada Cinema will be held with handsome Cash prizes.
The film festival will also host various forums for academic interactions / discourse on the different aspects of Filmmaking & Film Art Appreciation, through Seminars, Workshops, Master classes etc., for the benefit of filmmaking practitioners, discerning audiences and filmmaking / media students.
Along with the exchange of diverse cultural milieus, enhancing the knowledge and understanding of the film form, medium and exploring the historical milestones & features / trends in contemporary filmmaking, the film festival is targeted towards filmmaking practitioners, film fraternity, film critics, filmmaking / media students & discerning cineastes amongst the general public. The entrance is through registration as Delegates.The cost of registration would be decided by the Organizing committee / Core committee prior to each edition of the film festival.
